FAQ:

What is the Pauper Battle Royale?

The Pauper Battle Royale is a Pauper tournament on Magic Online. The tournament will feature Swiss rounds and a single elimination playoff to determine the winner.

When is the Pauper Battle Royale?

The Pauper Battle Royale will be on November 23, 2013. Round 1 of the tournament starts at 11 AM Eastern Standard Time (EST). We will open the event chat room an hour before the start of the event to allow for players to register and ask any questions before the event starts.

How do I register for the Pauper Battle Royale?

We will require all players to register and submit their deck lists before the start of Round 1. There are two different ways for players to register:

  1. Advance Registration (Preferred): Email Jason or Eric (see below for contact information) with your Magic Online username and deck list in text format (please no screenshots or links to websites) anytime during the week leading up to the tournament. We will enter you into the tournament in advance. On the day of the tournament please enter the event chat room and let us know you’re there.
  2. Last Minute Registration: Players can register in the event chat room the day of the tournament. We will be opening up the event chat room an hour before the start of Round 1. Players who have not registered in advance must notify Jason and/or Eric in the event chat room that they wish to participate in the Pauper Battle Royale. Please do not assume you are registered just because you are in the event chat room. We will require any player who does Last Minute Registration to submit their deck list to us via email in text format (please no screenshots or links to websites) before they are officially entered into the tournament.

We will be taking the following steps to ensure registration for the Pauper Battle Royale goes smoothly:

  1. For Advance Registration, we will send a response email once you are entered into the tournament. If you do not get a response from us within 24 hours saying you are registered, please send us an email again or message us on Magic Online.
  2. Before the start of Round 1 we will periodically post the list of registered players in the event chat room. If you do not see your name on this list, please let us know immediately so we can fix the mistake and get you registered correctly.
  3. Once we post the pairings for Round 1 in the event chat room, registration will be officially closed for the Pauper Battle Royale.
  4. If you change your deck list after it has been registered (either Advance or Last Minute Registration), please submit an updated list to Jason or Eric before the start of Round 1.

What are the rules for deck lists in the Pauper Battle Royale?

All decks must have a complete 60 card main deck and valid 0-15 card sideboard using only cards eligible for the Magic Online Pauper format. Please use the Pauper filter in the Magic Online client to determine whether a card is eligible or not.

If you are using a deck list different than the one registered before the start of Round 1 you will be disqualified immediately and be ineligible for any prizes.

Can I have more than one account registered in the Pauper Battle Royale?

Players will be allowed to register only one Magic Online account in the Pauper Battle Royale. Any player who is playing under multiple accounts will have all their registered accounts disqualified immediately and be ineligible for any prizes.

What is the tournament structure for the Pauper Battle Royale?

The Pauper Battle Royale will use a Swiss tournament structure similar to Magic Online Premier Events. The number of Swiss rounds depends on the number of players registered in the tournament. We will require a minimum of 16 players to register for the tournament before we start.

After the Swiss rounds are completed, the top 8 players will advance to a single-elimination 3 round playoff. If there are less than 33 players then only the top 4 players will advance to a single-elimination 2 round playoff.
